What is better than vinyl plank flooring?

It depends what you want it to beat. For water resistance, porcelain tile is at least its equal and lasts longer. For scratch and dent resistance, a good laminate generally outperforms it. For resale value and repairability, solid or engineered hardwood is ahead. For comfort and warmth underfoot in a bedroom, carpet still wins. Vinyl plank's strength is being competent at all of these without being best at any, which is precisely why it outsells everything else.
